Reflexion Health has expanded its portfolio of at-home physical therapy to include modules for upper extremities, including shoulder replacement, the company announces.
The upper extremity modules include standardized phased protocols to help patients recover from conditions ranging from total shoulder replacement to rotator cuff repair, educational materials, and functional surveys.

The modules are available in VERA, Reflexion Health’s flagship product, an FDA-cleared Virtual Exercise Rehabilitation Assistant that supports and remotely monitors physical therapy exercises in real time. The modules will enable patients to conveniently perform their physical therapy at home with oversight by a licensed physical therapist and an engaging avatar, the company notes in a media release.

“In a study completed last year, patients who used VERA for total knee replacement demonstrated significant cost savings and equivalent outcomes to traditional care with high patient satisfaction,” says Joe Smith, MD, PhD, CEO of Reflexion Health, in the release.

“We believe our upper extremity modules will offer similarly effective results with even greater cost savings. The new modules will continue our mission to make recovery convenient for patients, insightful for clinicians, and cost-effective for payors.”

VERA is designed to educate, demonstrate, measure, analyze and record patients’ movements at home, all without the need for patients to apply or wear any sensors or monitoring devices. The digital therapy platform integrates prescription rehabilitation exercises, an animated avatar coach, a 3D imaging system for measuring movement and form, an intuitive dashboard for remote clinical review, automatic report generation, and telemedicine capability to deliver a comprehensive, home-based rehabilitation.
