Mike Reinold, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS, the former head athletic trainer and physical therapist for the Boston Red Sox, has opened Champion Physical Therapy and Performance, a new physical therapy center in Waltham, Mass. A news report from the Waltham News Tribune notes that Champion was founded to recreate the integrated sports medicine model used to enhance elite athletic performance for people of all ages and abilities. After years of helping professional athletes return from injury and excel at their sport, Reinold and co-founder Lenny Macrina aim to create a similar environment for the public.

Reinold states, “Everyone should have access to elite-level care. People are starting to take control of their own health and wellness and focusing on how they can get the most out of their bodies. People want to feel better, move better and perform better. We want to provide physical therapy and personal training programs that will help people reach these goals.” According to the business, the integrated approach to fitness, physical therapy, and sports performance allows the staff to collaborate on helping athletes to reach their goals.

The Waltham News Tribune news report indicates that Champion takes an individualized approach and creates a customized program no matter what the participant’s current level of health or fitness.

Macrina says, “Everyone’s body is different and has different needs and goals. The programs we use are based off the programs we design everyday for professional athletes, but adjusted for each person’s age and ability level. The principles are the same if your goal is return from an injury, lose weight, get back in shape, or perform better at a sport.”

Though clients have been traveling from all over the world to consult with Champion, Reinold says he is excited to help the local area, as indicated on the Waltham News Tribune news report. Reinold declares, “Lenny and I both grew up in the Boston area. We are proud to offer these programs for the local community. That really means a lot to us.”
