Starting fall 2018, Anderson University (AU), located in Anderson, SC, will begin accepting applications for the new doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) program.

Once developed, the program will be the third accredited DPT program in South Carolina—and the only one in the Upstate area.

The 3-year program, set to begin in mid-2019, will be based out of the University Center of Greenville. The inaugural class will include 28 students.

The DPT degree has long been something the university has wanted to provide for some time, according to Don Peace, dean of AU’s College of Health Professions, in a news story from Independent Mail, part of the USA Today Network.

“We’re addressing this need in the Upstate,” Peace says. “We’re offering something that’s completely unique here.”

Dr Jessica Jacobs, director of clinical education, and Dr Martha Hinman, recently appointed founding chair of AU’s School of Physical Therapy, are spearheading the DPT program’s launch.

Both are establishing relationships with physical therapy facilities in the area, beginning the accreditation process, and getting in touch with students interested in the program, per the news story.
