USA Rugby officially announces a partnership with TeachAids, a nonprofit leader in producing award-winning global education innovation, to further understanding of the invisible injury of concussions. Founded in 1975, USA Rugby is the national governing body (NGB) for the sport of rugby in America, and a Full Sport Member of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and World Rugby.
With over 100,000 active members, USA Rugby oversees four national teams, multiple Junior National Teams and an emerging Olympic development pathway for elite athletes. USA Rugby joins 22 USOPC NGBs to disseminate the CrashCourse concussion education to its population of coaches, athletes and the larger sports community.
TeachAids creates breakthrough technology to solve persistent problems in health education around the world. Their products are designed with input from a team of world-class academics, researchers, medical experts, and sports industry professionals associated with leading organizations and institutions such as Stanford University, Harvard University, the Mayo Clinic, UCSF and beyond.
TeachAids has developed “CrashCourse,” a suite of interactive products focused on the prevention and treatment of concussions and related mental health issues. This education has been designed to teach athletes, parents, and coaches about concussions. CrashCourse products include scientific knowledge to help dispel myths and misconceptions about the concussion recovery process. They also serve as resources for athletic trainers, rehab specialists and physicians.
“The safety of our athletes in a contact sport is the highest priority of our programs worldwide. We are excited to launch the CrashCourse curriculum to help equip our athletes and coaches with further knowledge of how to address head injury and to enhance our existing concussion education efforts,” said USA Rugby Director of Training & Education, Jamie McGregor.
“This is an invaluable partnership to work with some of the greatest minds of our time to benefit our sports community. From age group competitors to world class male and female ruggers, we are inspired by the passionate efforts of USA Rugby to make this incredible sport safer for all.” adds Dr. Piya Sorcar, Founder and CEO of TeachAids.
“USA Rugby is dedicated to accepting the challenge of ensuring our sport is made safer for our athletes across all demographics. We are pleased to incorporate the CrashCourse products into our existing health and safety protocols. Our coaches and team staff at all levels will find this engaging content helpful in their mission of promoting the sport they love,“ says USA Rugby Medical Director, Michael Keating.
The CrashCourse concussion education suite is now available free to the public through the USA Rugby website, as well as to USA Rugby members through its Learning Center. If you wish to have your completion marked on your permanent education record, please access the USA Rugby Learning Center.
