An upcoming webinar from the Department of Defense Centers of Excellence (DCoE) will focus on sports-related concussions and football helmets. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) reports that the 90-minute program will cover the latest consensus statements about helmets and concussion prevention, the biomechanics and pathophysiology of concussion, and the role of acceleration information in characterizing the risk of brain injury.

In addition, the webinar will explore the ways in which rule changes and better equipment could reduce the risk of brain injury.

The APTA news release notes that the presenters will include Kristy Arbogast, PhD, pediatrics co-scientific director for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Injury Research and Prevention; Donald Marion, MD, MSc, of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center; and Steven Rowson, PhD, assistant research professor at the Virginia Tech School of Biomedical Engineering.

The webinar will be July 10 from 1 to 2:30 pm, ET. Webinar participants can register in advance or on the day of the presentation. Visit http://continuingeducation.dcri.duke.edu/do-helmets-prevent-concussion to register for this online event.
