The BioStim SD digital TENS, manufactured by BioMedical Life Systems Inc, Vista, Calif, is a pain-management device that is designed to be durable, compact, and portable. The device features four programmable functions and a “Patient Lock System,” which allows a clinician to lock the device in place to ensure the setting are retained for the patient. According to BioMedical Life Systems, the unit outputs an asymmetrical biphasic square waveform and includes adjustable pulse width (10 to 250 US) and frequency settings (1 to 200 Hz). The device has large, easy-to-press buttons (most measure (3/4) inch) and there are no small dials to turn, enabling ease of use by patients with dexterity issues.
