Throw Like a Pro, an application designed to help baseball players reduce the risk of throwing injuries, is now available for download for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. A news release from Abracadabra Health LLC, based in Birmingham, Ala, notes that the app provides knowledge from Kevin Wilk, PT, DPT, and James Andrews, MD, two experts on overuse injuries. The creators anticipate that if the app is used correctly, there will be a 60% reduction in overuse-related baseball injuries in coming years.
The Abracadabra Health LLC news release notes that professional baseball has already seen 45 players require Tommy John surgery in 2014. Wilk states, “For the people who think famous, major league pitchers are the only ones undergoing Tommy John surgery, we have news for you. We have seen countless youth and teenage baseball players with elbow injuries… It’s very unfortunate, sad, and in many cases, probably avoidable.”
The Abracadabra Health LLC news release indicates that Throw Like a Pro is designed to address many of the contributing factors of overuse injuries with a comprehensive set of features. These include an in-season maintenance guide, a pre-season exercise regimen, an age-based pitch counter and rest calculator, and other training and rest recommendations.
Dewar Gaines, CEO of Abracadbra Health, says the app marks the first of many exciting future developments in what he calls “preventive personal care.” Gaines states, “We want to give people the power to proactively approach health and wellness by providing access to two of the brightest minds in sports medicine…we feel this is the future of mobile healthcare, and I plan to be at the forefront.”
Throw Like a Pro can be purchased for $9.99. For more information, visit http://www.abcdhealth.com.
