The June issue of Physical Therapy (PTJ), the scientific journal of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), features guidelines to help physical therapists treat childhood obesity.

These clinical recommendations are provided by the Belgian Physical Therapy Association (AXXON) and are intended for PTs who provide care in private practice or home settings, according to a media release from the APTA.

It is recommended, per the release, that PTs conduct a clinical evaluation of the patient prior to participation in exercise. In addition, experts suggest that PTs obtain access to important health information by working closely with healthcare professionals and institutions that offer more complex evaluation methods.
