World Physical Therapy Day is September 8, which is an opportunity for physical therapists from all over the world to raise awareness about the role they play in keeping people well, mobile, and independent. The theme of World Physical Therapy Day for 2014 is “Fit to Take Part,” and this theme emphasizes how physical therapists help individuals with long-term illnesses or disabilities fulfill their potential by maximizing movement and functional ability.

To help physical therapists prepare for September 8, the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) is offering a toolkit that includes stickers, banners, and T-shirts, in addition to press releases and informational booklets. Several posters are available this year in Spanish. The WCPT toolkit specifically includes ideas, practical advice, and information about the benefits of physical therapy.

The resource booklet, which is part of the online toolkit, focuses on “resources on why physical therapy matters,” according to the WCPT. The booklet provides facts, statistics, research findings, and articles to help physical therapists demonstrate the contribution of therapists as part of World Physical Therapy Day campaigns and events.

In addition, the toolkit has a section dedicated to previous World Physical Therapy Day activities since 2009 to give participants ideas for 2014.

World Physical Therapy Day was designated in 1996. According to the WCPT, the day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physical therapy community and is an opportunity to recognize the work physical therapists do for patients and the community. The WCPT aims to support member organizations in their efforts to promote the profession and advance their expertise.
