Carestream will shine the spotlight on its OnSight 3D Extremity System during the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) annual meeting, which begins on May 30.
During the meeting, visitors to the Carestream booth will be able to witness a demonstration of the OnSight system, which according to the company is designed to use cone beam CT (CBCT) technology to capture high-quality, low-dose 3D extremity exams onsite. It features a large-area detector that captures a 3D image of the patient in a single rotation in just 25 seconds.
The ability to capture 3D exams onsite allows sports medicine physicians to diagnose an injury and discuss treatment options with their patients in a single visit, adds a news release from Rochester, NY-based Carestream Health.
“This affordable system offers excellent 3D image quality and provides the ability to view weight-bearing exams of lower extremities under normal load conditions,” says Helen Titus, Carestream’s worldwide marketing director for x-ray & ultrasound solutions, in the release.
“This technology provides the ability to visualize soft tissue such as tendons and ligaments, and delivers high-resolution 3D images of fractures, which can help care providers determine when an athlete can return to sports activities,” she continues.
The OnSight system can be installed in an exam room and plugs into a standard wall outlet. Rather than placing the entire body and head inside, as with traditional CT systems, the patient simply needs to insert the injured extremity into the system’s opening.
